- * Folylpolyglutamate synthase signatures *
- ******************************************
-
- Folylpolyglutamate synthase (EC 6.3.2.17) (FPGS) [1] is the enzyme of folate
- metabolism that catalyzes the ATP-dependent addition of glutamate moieties to
- tetrahydrofolate.
-
- FPGS is an enzyme whose sequence is moderately conserved between prokaryotes
- and eukaryotes. We have developed two signature patterns based on the most
- conserved regions. These regions are rich in glycine residues and could play
- a role in the catalytical activity and/or in substrate binding.
-
- -Consensus pattern: [STA]-G-T-x-G-K-x-[ST]-x(7)-[LIVM](2)-x(3)-G
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: Bacillus subtilis murE.
-
- -Consensus pattern: [LIVMF](2)-E-x-G-[LIVM]-[GA]-G-x(2)-D-x-[GST]-x-[LIVM](2)
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
